In his Report of the President, Eugene George reviewed where MCAA has been in the last 12 months, and where it might expect to be in the foreseeable future. He first took the time to collectively recognize and thank the Association's regional vice presidents and the chairmen and members of the various committees for their work over the past year.

He cited these MCAA accomplishments in 1978:
►Formation of the Masonry Panel Contractors Committee chaired by Fred Daues of St. Louis.
►Appointment of C. DeWitt Brown of Dallas, Texas as a trustee of the International Masonry Institute (IMI).
►Recruitment of Ray Lackey as executive director of IMI. Lackey was formerly associated with the Washington-based firm handling IMI advertising and public relations.
►Creation of the Masonry Research Foundation (See Masonry, February, 1979 issue).
►Publication by IMAT of Book III in the three-volume series of the text, The Bricklayer: Brick & Block Construction. This newest work completes the first comprehensive library of instructional materials designed specifically for masonry industry joint apprenticeship programs.

What of the future? "As an international trade association, we must plan and energetically work for increased liaison with organizations in related professional, manufacturing, personnel and commercial fields of endeavor," President George said.

"Architecture, block, brick and gypsum production, labor organization and equipment distribution are all critically important links in the masonry chain which our regional chapters and individual members would do well to strengthen and expand through increased trade as well as social contact.

"Our present and future core programs will require constant attention. The present strength and tremendous growth potential of all these programs, and many more not even yet conceived, will certainly move MCAA into a bright and promising future. But only if every day, in every way, each of us enthusiastically promotes our industry, our people, our skills, our product."

IMI Promotion Campaigns Outlined

Following President George's remarks, IMI's new executive director, Ray Lackey, gave a slide presentation highlighting the Institute's 1978 achievements and outlining the promotional activities slated for 1979. IMI in 1978 conducted a vigorous and broad promotion campaign on behalf of mason contractors and craftsmen.

Discussions about the newest advances in forklift design took place many times at the Pettibone Corp. exhibit at the '79 MCAA Educational Trade Show in Atlanta. Pettibone's equipment was also demonstrated live at the Masonry Industry Showcase.

Ray Lackey, newly appointed executive director of the International Masonry Institute, spoke on "IMI Today" and gave a rundown on the Institute's 1978-79 advertising and promotional programs on behalf of the masonry industry. MCAA president Eugene George is pictured at left.
