About Our Cover
The Pinole Library in the San Francisco Bay area has a unique masonry wall with a colorful Indian-motif mural measuring 66 ft. long by 18 ft. high. Built of glazed brick, the walls are grouted and exposed both inside and out. Architect for the project was Ostwald & Kelly, with Siri Construction Co. the general and Walter Lucas the mason contractor. Emmy Lou Packard designed the mural to reflect the Indian culture of the original settlers to the area. The special mosaic work was performed by a well-known local mosaic artist-craftsman, Jack Sward & Son.
