Excellence Awards Presented by Chicago Masonry Council

Rosemont. III. The Thrush residence, designed by Booth Nagle Hartray Ltd., Chicago, won the Gold Medal in the fifth annual "Excellence In Masonry" awards competition sponsored by the Metropolitan Chicago Masonry Council.

Silver Medals also were presented to Perkins & Will. Chicago, for the Ingalls Memorial Hospital Professional Office Building. Harvey, III.: A. R. Belrose & Associates, for the Pine Grove Townhomes, Chicago; Metz. Train, Olson, Youngren, Inc., for the 840 S. Canal Street Operations Building of Continental Bank. Chicago, and Booth Nagle Hartray Ltd., which won a second award for its design of the Housing for the Elderly project in Highland Park. III.

Honored for excellence in execution of design was the mason contracting firm of John Trogdon, Harvey, Ill., for its work on the Thrush residence. Other mason contractors honored were V. S. Wallgren Co., for the 840 S. Canal Street Operations Building and Ingalls Memorial Hospital Professional Office Building, and Caesar Fiocchi Co., for the Housing for the Elderly project.

Presenting the awards were Clarence Krusinski, president, Chicago Chapter, American Institute of Architects: James Skinner, Jr., board chairman, Brick Institute of America; Charles F. Velardo, trustee, International Masonry Institute; John G. Spaulding, president, National Association of Brick Distributors, and Eugene George. president, Mason Contractors Association of America.

The panel of jurists was comprised of Atlanta area architects in order to maintain complete impartiality in judging. Serving on the panel were Jerome M. Cooper. FAIA. president, Cooper, Carry & Associates, Inc.: James Harrison Finch, FAIA, president, Finch, Alexander. Barnes. Rothchild & Paschal, Inc., and Peter Norris, AIA, partner, Hall, Norris & Marsh.

The presentation ceremony, attended by upwards of 500 persons, was accompanied by a banquet and dance held in the Hyatt Regency O'Hare Rosemont Ballroom.
