MORGEN Scaffolding increases masons' production considerably on complicated office building

When Klinger Construction Company of Sioux City first saw the plans for a complicated building designed for the local power company headquarters they knew that "with the different heights and configurations of the exterior, Morgen would be the most economical scaffolding system possible", said Doug Ohlfest, Project Manager.

"We had used the Morgen Scaffolding successfully on the 12-story Hilton here in Sioux City", said Ohlfest. "The crew was familiar with the Morgen system, and they all wanted to use it again."

The IPS building is 70 feet high, with numerous large openings in the exterior and several types of facing. "Being able to adjust that platform height every time we layed a course of terra cotta made the Morgen system very desirable," said Ohlfest. "The terra cotta panels we're using come in two foot squares. After we lay a course of that we have to jump scaffolding two feet at a time to get to the next course. That would be extremely slow going without Morgen Adjustable Scaffolding. "In fact," said Ohlfest, "without Morgen Scaffolding, the completion date of this job would be pushed back by at least a month".

"Our masons' production with the Morgen is considerably better than with conventional scaffolding." said Ohlfest.

Klinger Construction has 55 scaffolding towers 70 feet high on the job, some on the inside where 6-foot diameter decorative columns are being built all the way to the roof with five scaffolding towers circling them. Morgen Scaffolding is also being used on the entranceway that has 17 columns that reach to the roof.

Does work on a Morgen go faster than on conventional Scaffolding? "Oh, there's no question about that," said Ron Anderson, Job Superintendent. "It's faster. There is a lot less material handling involved. Having to move all of those frames and planks really stops all of the action. The bricklayers have to come down off of the scaffolding, then you have to rebuild it at a new height and restock it. That's where the savings is with the Morgen Adjustable Scaffolding. It eliminates all that wasted time."
