# Masonry Design Seminar Held in Milwaukee

A twi-night seminar on "Masonry Design Considerations" was presented by the Milwaukee School of Engineering in cooperation with the Masonry Institute of Wisconsin, Brick Institute of America Region 5, and the Wisconsin Concrete & Products Association.

The five-and-one-half hour educational session, which was held at the Allen-Bradley Hall of Science in Milwaukee, Wis., November 15, 1979, covered three basic aspects of masonry - energy, structural design and the masonry system.


# Norton Co. of Canada Opens New Facility

Norton Company of Canada Ltd. has opened its new plant, warehouse and office facility at 2410 Tedlo St., Unit 4, Mississauga, Ontario L5A 3V3. (416) 276-7736.

The Clipper and Christensen brand diamond and abrasive blades and core bits will be marketed from this location. Robert B. Beach continues as product/market manager for the Construction Products Division. Dominic James will act as production manager.

# MCAA's Board Congratulates John Joyce of BAC

John T. "Jack" Joyce (center), new president of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen (BAC), receives congratulations on his ascendency to the International Union's top executive post from MCAA Executive Board members Eugene George (far right), president of MCAA, Don Leonard (far left), secretary, and George A Miller (2nd from left), executive vice president. Joyce took over the reins from Thomas F. Murphy (2nd from right), who announced his retirement after 13 years as president at the union's general board meeting in San Diego, Cal. Murphy, who served on the BAC staff for 39 years, is presently chairman of the Masonry Industry Committee headquartered in Washington.


# Palmetto Purchases Cheraw Brick Works

Palmetto Brick Co. announced it has purchased Cheraw Brick Works, Inc., Cheraw, S.C. Cheraw's operation, adjacent to Palmetto's, was relatively small with production capability of 60,000 to 70,000 brick per day.

The Cheraw plant itself has been dismantled. The Cheraw clay deposits represent another 15 years' supply for Palmetto, whose current production capacity is 250,000 brick per day.


# Symposium on Moisture Migration in Buildings

The American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM) has scheduled a symposium on "Moisture Migration in Buildings: The Need for Standards" in Philadelphia, Pa., October 6. Papers are now being sought.

The objective of the symposium is to define moisture problems in buildings and terminology. Papers addressing what is needed in the way of standards, building materials data, modeling and measurement methods to improve building performance are encouraged.

Prospective authors are asked to submit three copies of a one-page abstract and an ASTM paper offer form prior to February 28, 1980. Forms are available from Heinz R. Treschel, Symposium Chairman, National Bureau of Standards, Washington, DC 20234.


# Stockinger Heads Up Felker Operations

Fred C. Stockinger, vice president of international operations for Bay State Abrasives, Westborough, Mass., has been named to direct Felker Operations as vice president and general manager. The Felker post is in addition to his international sales responsibilities.

Stockinger has been with Bay State since 1946 when he joined the firm as a field salesman. He subsequently held various sales management positions with the firm, culminating with his appointment as vice president in 1975.

Bay State Abrasives is a major U.S. producer of grinding wheels. Felker Operations, Torrance, Calif., manufactures diamond wheels for cutting masonry and other construction materials. Both firms are divisions of Dresser Industries, Inc.
