Masonry Fireplaces-Hottest News in Home Energy Conservation
Well in excess of five million American families will be burning wood next winter to meet some or all of their home heating requirements. And, according to recent Department of Energy research, more than one million fireplaces are being installed in new homes annually. Because of the current energy crunch and the abundance of wood for fuel, this strong demand is expected to continue over the next five years as people seek alternate ways to heat their homes. Few would argue that a properly constructed, energy-conserving masonry fireplace not only increases the value of a home but lends warmth, elegance and a cheery ambience to any room. In this issue, Masonry presents articles on three fireplace manufacturers who have come up with new, more efficient versions of the traditional brick and stone fireplace which people for centuries have enjoyed and, indeed, relied on.
Note: In keeping with its policy to inform mason contractors in the field of the latest technological developments in the industry, Masonry presents these articles on fireplace construction. The statements, opinions and suggestions expressed by the firms mentioned in the articles are not necessarily those of Masonry or its publisher, the Mason Contractors Association of America-Ed.
