HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?
"National Lime Association" technical note Shown are several of 30 similar test panels subjected to "artifically wind driven water applied continuously to the brick face, simulating a 5½ in./hr. rainfall and near hurricane force 62.5 mph wind."
Were These Tests Too Severe?
Some People Think So... What Do You Think?
Twelve of these panels included masonry cement mortar the balance Portland cement/lime mortars. RESULTS? LIME BASED MORTARS reduced water leakage by 10 times... it took twice as long for the first dampness; five times as long for the first visible water to appear. Also, there was a lower percentage of damp area on the backs of the test panels and higher water permeance ratings as a result Finally after curing an additional six months there was even greater resistance to water penetration!
ASK YOURSELF If Lime Based Mortars give this performance under such conditions, doesn't it make good sense to expect even better results under normal, more moderate circumstances?
