Brick was selected as the major building component in order to enhance its strong architectural features, establishing the corporate style, traditional image and quality level which the savings and loan association desired for its headquarters.


Architects Honored for Oregon Building Designs

AIA Fellow Fred Bassetti, a partner in Bassetti, Norton, Metler, Rothschild Architects and a member of the Seattle Design Commission, keynoted the 1980 Hammurabi Awards luncheon for Excellence In Masonry Design at the Inn of the Quay in Vancouver, Wash.

The sponsoring organizations, the Masonry and Ceramic Tile Institutes of Oregon, gave honor awards to four local AIA members from a total of 32 building submittals. The program recognizes architects from Oregon and southwest Washington who have submitted outstanding building designs featuring brick, concrete block and/or ceramic tile.

AIA regional director Edwin B. Crittenden of Anchorage, Alaska presented awards to the following design firms:

Zimmer, Gunsul, Frasca Partnership for the Lincoln Savings & Loan Office Building, Tigard, Ore.

Michael & Lakeman Architects for Unthank Plaza, an elderly housing project in north Portland.

Robert S. Leeb/Architects & Planners for the Hoyt Square Condominiums, Portland.

Griggs, Lee, Ruff, Ankrom Architects for the Reed College Studio Arts Building, Portland.

Additional recognition was given to the engineering firms, the general
