Century Federal Savings & Loan Association/Latrobe Community Office
The entire exterior of the building, except the south wall, is clad with a veneer of light gray brick accented with a stripe of red brick near the roof line. The south wall is clad in three colors of ceramic tile, 4" x 4 size, set in a vertical stack bond pattern. Brick and tile materials are carried into the two vestibules to provide continuity between the exterior and interior.
Special brick shapes were manufactured for non-right angle corners. The brick veneer of the long curved wall is expressed at the jambs and heads of the opening into the lobby from the circulation area at the south. wall. This required the application of a single course of solid brick below the lintel at the opening. An insulated fiberglass skylight system provides natural light in the lobby while holding heat gain/loss to a minimum.

The client liked traditional classical architecture for insurance company offices in the belief that white columns and a classical pediment symbolize permanence and security. The building is a steel structure, clad in masonry and curtain wall. Brick, with its small scale at close range and its warmth of texture and color on larger scale piers and parapets, was chosen by the client/architect to achieve the desired design goals. Exterior and interior pavers are continuous throughout and complement the facing brick.
"Twindows," with 45% solar transmission glazing, are set back from the building exterior to provide summer-time shade. The building, 23,000 sq. ft. on two floors, faces Interstate 28. Indoor/outdoor planting and a high triangulated glazed atrium provide a special luminous quality, day and night, revealing the white columns and pediment of the atrium's structure.

A BLISS & LAUGHLIN industry
Ryan Homes Inc. Corporate Headquarters
A wooded hillside site and the desire to create a quiet residential atmosphere were the elements that guided the design of this project. In order to preserve the natural setting and retain a beautiful stand of oaks. the building consists of five interconnecting pavilions carefully placed within the trees. The building has five floor levels, each set into the hillside. and having direct access to grade. Landscaped courtyards and informal outdoor gardens further blend the built environment with its natural setting.
Brick was used on the corner piers. various exterior walls, and site walls, such as retaining walls and the entrance sign wall. The brick was extended inside the building to enhance the interior spaces. Brick paving was used extensively on exterior places and entrance lobby floor. Both reinforced and non-reinforced concrete block were used for various structural. elements.
