Masonry Is Hit of Home Builders Show In Detroit's Cobo Hall
The Michigan masonry industry was the recognized hit of the 1981 Builders Home/Flower/Furniture Show, which recently ran for nine days at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Its 3,000-square-foot display featured Roman entrance arches, unique split-rail brick fences, passive solar masonry walls, the energy-efficient Brick-O-Lator fireplace, brick and concrete masonry pavers, glass block, and continuous bricklaying demonstrations by Detroit-area apprentices. The apprentices also helped aspiring bricklayers do their thing at the Show. Those who participated received "honorary bricklayer" souvenir buttons (inset) provided by the Masonry Institute of Michigan.
