The purchase of assets of Bridgeport Aggregates, Inc., Bridgeport, Tex., by Material Service Corp., Chicago, III., has been announced by Lester Crown. Material Service president. Material Service, a subsidiary of General Dynamics Corp., will operate the Texas plant under the name of Metroplex Stone Corp.


No Cement Shortages Expected in 1981
Although the demand for cement is expected to grow 4 to 5 per cent in 1981, there should be no strain on national supplies and only minimal brief shortages at the local level, according to an analysis by the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industrial Economics.

The widespread cement shortages that existed from 1977 through early 1979 were virtually eliminated in 1980 as construction activity, particularly homebuilding, declined significantly, the Department said.


General Portland Seeks Merger with Whitehall
General Portland, Inc., Dallas, Texas, and Whitehall Cement Manufacturing Co. announced they have approved an agreement in principle by which General Portland would acquire Whitehall.

The proposed transaction is subject to various customary conditions.
