DONALD O. LEONARD

Meet MCAA's New President

Donald O. Leonard, MCAA's 17th chief elected official, is president of Don Leonard Brick & Real Estate Development Co. and Leonard Masonry, Inc., St. Louis, Mo.

A native of Missouri, he was born in Jefferson city on April 6, 1931. The oldest of five children (a brother and three sisters), he grew up and was educated in St. Louis. Following completion of his schooling, he spent four years as a bricklayer apprentice and two years in the Army. He worked as a bricklayer in the St. Louis area before establishing his own masonry firm in 1959, specializing in apartment and office buildings, diversifying in later years to commercial and industrial masonry as well as real estate development.

Don has been active in the Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis and related masonry and construction organizations. He has served as a trustee of the Masonry Institute of St. Louis, Bricklayers Pension & Welfare Funds of Missouri, the Missouri Apprentice & Training Trust, the Mason Tenders Vacation and Promotion Program of St. Louis, and as a member of the board of directors of the Pride organization of St. Louis.

He has served the Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis as a member and chairman of the Arbitration Board, and as secretary, vice president and president, as well as serving on various committees in an active and advisory capacity.

Prior to assuming his post as president of the Mason Contractors Association of America, Leonard was committee chairman, state chairman, regional vice president, secretary and vice president. He also is a trustee of the International Masonry Institute.

Don and his wife, Ruth, have four children-two married daughters, Kathryn and Christine; a married son, Donald Jeffrey, who is vice president of Leonard Masonry, Inc.; a son, Steven, who is completing his second year in the apprenticeship training program in St. Louis and four grandchildren.

Don feels a strong sense of loyalty and obligation to an industry that has been good to him. "It is my aim and desire to work diligently to further the cause of the masonry industry," he says. "We have an organization that has and will continue to play a leadership role in the construction industry."
