THE MOST
APPRECIATED
PAYCHECK
Even though the employee will never see the money, the most appreciated paychecks will be those coming to your deceased executive's survivors through a salary continuation plan. "Salary continuation" is a nice name for a method you can use to provide key employees with family security. For example, a plan of $100,000 payable to an executive's survivors over five or ten years would not only provide added income security to the family, it might even cause the executive to think twice before leaving the firm.
Expensive? Not necessarily. If the amounts paid meet certain requirements, you, the employer, can deduct payments made to the executive's survivors. Remember, the employer receives life insurance death proceeds income tax-free. There is no cost to the executive, either. Survivors would, of course, pay income tax on payments received, because they constitute a salary benefit. But with proper planning and a tax counselor's advice, it's possible to shield benefits from the Federal estate tax. Commercial Insurance Service Inc. Newsletter, Charleston, W.Va.

Consistent Pigments Help Georgia
World Congress Center to Color-match
New Concrete Block Addition
The ability to accurately match the colors of concrete block made six years apart was a challenging, but crucial, part of the design for the new 1.1 million sq. ft. addition to Atlanta's Georgia World Congress Center.
In order to have the addition perceived as one structure with the original 750,000 sq. ft. convention and exhibition hall built in 1976, architects Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates specified duplication of as many original building components as possible. This included 200,000 split-ribbed concrete block for the addition's interior (pictured). They are through-colored in a rich yellow/brown earth tone to match the color of the 100,000 block used in the original building.
Kingery Block & Concrete Co., Austell, Ga., block supplier for both projects, achieved the block's color with Bayferrox iron oxide pigments. Made by Mobay Chemical Corp., Pittsburgh, Pa., the pigments' consistent color and uniform particle size aid the color matching process, according to Kingery.
