Towering New Sundance Hotel
Dominates Las Vegas Skyline
Easily recognized on the Las Vegas skyline is the new Sundance Hotel and Casino, which towers over its prime Fremont St. site in the heart of downtown, better known to Las Vegas tourists as "glitter gulch." The 33-floor hotel houses a 50,000 sq. ft. casino, four restaurants, a 12-floor concrete parking structure, and 655 guest rooms. The Sundance is now the tallest building in the state of Nevada. Its construction also represents a departure from standard techniques in the Las Vegas area. The exterior facade consists of gold reflective glass curtain walls and fluted, split-face concrete masonry units. A portion of the walls were constructed off-site in precast panels and attached to pre-installed weld plates on the poured-in-place concrete tower structure. Of the approximately 220,000 sq. ft. of concrete masonry units utilized in the project, some 10.000 sq. ft. required this method of installation.
