LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

At MCAA's 1982 Masonry Conference, our organization accepted the challenge of two long-range goals-doubling masonry's share of the building market by 1990, and doubling our membership by the same date.

The building depression worked against our making a start towards achieving those long-range goals last year, and it may have a similar effect in 1983. But those goals remain achievable, if we remain united and continue to participate in the work of our Association.

In the year that lies ahead, our members will be called upon to extend their support of MCAA. This will be a difficult task at this time, but the Association's needs must be met, so that it can help meet our needs.

Another objective that MCAA will have in 1983 is to improve our working relationships with materials suppliers in the industry. The basis for such an improvement already has been created. Now we must build on that foundation with confidence and good will.

As I look ahead, I cannot help but feel optimistic. We face many future problems, of course, and no one can be absolutely certain when our current building market depression will end.

I know, however, that we as mason contractors will survive, and that MCAA will survive. There are some more hard times ahead of us, but when they have passed us we will have the ultimate satisfaction of seeing our faith, energy and skill rewarded. We will see masonry, mason contractors and the Association all move into a new era of progress and prosperity.
