* Loebl Schlossman & Hackl, for the Allstate Insurance Commercial Division Headquarters, Barrington. III. Pepper Construction Co. was the mason contractor.

"Brick Week" In N.C.
Gov. James B. Hunt (right) officially declared June 11-17, 1983 North Carolina Brick Week as he presented a proclamation to North Carolina Brick Association president William Coleman.
Gov. Hunt praised the brick industry for its support of the North Carolina technical and industrial high school masonry programs and encouraged the masonry industry to continue its commitment to assist young people in their vocational training. He characterized North Carolina as the "brick capital of the nation" by virtue of producing more than 13% of all brick used in the U.S.
Turner Smith Launches Consulting Practice
Turner Smith, a veteran mason contractor and long-time MCAA member, has announced the formation of his own construction consulting practice. His firm, Masonry & Concrete Consultants, Inc., is located at 5211 Berry Creek, Houston, TX 70017, (713) 944-1148.
Smith said he plans to concentrate his work in the areas of design and anchorage, estimating, testing, jobsite inspection, and analysis of existing problems.
In his 29 years as a mason contractor in Houston and the southern states, Smith's firm has worked on such notable Houston projects as the Hyatt Regency Hotel, the Houston City Hall Annex. Two Allen Center. St. Joseph Hospital, St. Luke Texas Children's Hospital, Warwick Towers, Three Riverway, and Five Post Oak Park.
