ST. LOUIS AWARDS
continued from page 5
Incarnate Word Catholic Church-McMahon Architects, Inc., architect: Martin Korn Brick Contracting, mason contractor. "This church possesses an artistic, simple plan with a fitting relationship to the existing building. Its design 'reads' well on each building elevation. The richness of the brick detailing, texture, and color make this design work. The intricate brick detailing breaks up the building mass while adding character to the church."
Mid Rivers Office Building/Mark Twain Bank Mid Rivers-Robert L. Boland, Inc., architect; R. E. Vickery, Inc., mason contractor. "This building is a stand-out in design symmetry. It possesses a good interplay between the curved stair towers and the long horizontal masonry elements. The terrace effect serves to effectively reduce the mass of the project to an inviting human scale. The architect chose an excellent brick for this building type."
The awards presentation ended with a presentation on the subject of "Architecture and Masonry" by Ben Weese, FAIA, and Cynthia Weese. AIA. The husband-wife team co-founded the Chicago architectural firm of Weese Hickey Weese Architects Ltd. in 1977. Ben Weese was formerly president of Harry Weese & Associates of Chicago.
