Southeast Multi-Purpose Center, Chicago, III.
Jury's comment: "This public building was the strongest of this year's submissions. The architect did a great deal with the existing structure, fitting it into the community. They made the right ceremonial choices in terms of the symbolic portico and aedicular shapes over the side windows. The entry shows a high degree of design talent and an interesting use of masonry."
Casa Della Luce Urban Townhouse, Chicago, III.
Jury's comment: "It was one of the more sophisticated of the entries and was directed by a concern for the full, gentle human experience. It testifies to a sensitivity to its surroundings and nature. The facade employs traditional elements of masonry coursing and details, and displays a facility with design."

Jury's comment: "This is a dignified choice that doesn't have to 'proclaim. It states that a quiet option for quality can and should be made. One senses the energy that was there to make the handsome, assymetrical facade work. The design required reproduction of all the detailed stonework on the existing main building. They did a beautiful job."
