One more attempt by the Treasury Department to erode the availability of the completed contract method of accounting. The inherent risks and the unique nature of the construction industry make the continued availability of the completed contract method of accounting to all construction contractors a necessity," he said. "Requiring the payment of taxes on contracts with negative cash flow would cause a very serious cash drain to any contractor."

The NCIC resolution calls for the IRS to define "construction contractor," for the purpose of long-term accounting methods, as those in the Standard Industrial Classification Manual, Office of Management and Budget, Executive Office of the President.

New System Produces Pressed Adobe Block at the Construction Site

A Grants, N. M., firm has announced the availability of a portable, self-contained machine designed to produce pressed adobe block at the construction site at an average rate of 600 units per hour.

The machine, dubbed the Gold Brick "5000", is controlled by an automated system made up of Rexroth Worldwide Hydraulics and the Texas Instrument T1510 Programmable Controller.

"The need for affordable, energy-efficient homes is bringing about a revival of adobe," said John Wright of Worldwide Adobe, Inc. "Adobe block is the oldest and by far the most widely used building material in the world. The technological breakthrough of the Gold Brick '5000' could reestablish adobe as a primary building material in many parts of the world."

The versatility of the machine enables the owner to produce block at the job site, palletize block for transport, and provide block for supply yards, Wright said.
