Mobile Brick Cleaning Machine
Brickmaster Manufacturing Co. has introduced a mobile brick cleaning machine designed to remove mortar from up to 2,000 used brick per hour with a three-man crew. The machine cleans the brick in two stages: a cleaning head consisting of spring-loaded tooth sprockets fractures the mortar; each brick then moves on to a finishing chamber which scrapes the remaining mortar before ejecting the brick.
A two-cylinder gas engine powers the hydraulic system, which has a 24-in. stroke. The unit can easily be moved from site to site with a pickup truck. For more information, contact the manufacturer at 3427 Washburn Way, Klamath Falls, OR 97603.
New Library for McCook, Illinois
A new full-service public library, designed by John Victor Frega Associates Ltd. of Chicago, opened to the public recently in McCook, an industrial village in southwest Cook County, III.
The design problem of a public building on a residential lot, 50 ft. x 132 ft., was solved by narrowing the structure from eight bays at the rear to four in the front by means of angled side walls, allowing improved landscaping and the illusion of a larger lot.
Externally, the split roof is divided by a clerestory window, an architectural reference to local industrial buildings. Sparkling Ironspot Face Brick were used in the bearing masonry walls. Tazioli Construction Co., Highland Park. III., was the mason contractor.
