Free Booklet on Family
Business Situations
This interesting 16-page booklet is based upon letters written to Frank Butrick, an authority on family relationships in privately owned businesses, and his replies. Presented in an almost "Dear Abby" format, the booklet presents letters from parents at one end and letters from heirs at the opposite end.
Among the parents' problems dealt with are: "None of my children wants to take over. What should I do?" "How does a father avoid a family feud when his oldest son is not the best qualified?"
The heirs see the business differently and have different problems: "My father is semi-retired and I run the business. But he takes more money than I get. How can I get him to pay us equally?"... "Dad has offered me a job in his business, but it would be a come-down from my specialty, social anthropology. Should I accept?"
In all, some two dozen questions are answered. The booklet is available free to any business owner/executive or heir who sends $1.00 to cover postage and handling to: Independent Business Institute, P.O. Box 159, Akron, OH 44309.
No Luck At all
Glimpse, a newsletter published by the International Society for General Semantics, keeps a sharp eye out for the misuse or abuse of the English language, and in that search often turns up some humorous items. Here's one sample:
"Karori and Western Suburb News, a New Zealand paper, recently carried the following notice: 'Lost in Birnham Wood area, bald, one-eyed ginger tom cat, crippled in both back legs, neutered, answers to the name of Lucky."
What business does a handsome dog like me have with a top cat like you?
