A ready-mixed mortar additive called Mortard is described in a four-color brochure from W. R. Grace & Co.'s Construction Products Division. The additive keeps mortar plastic and workable for 12 to 48 hours, allowing mortar to be mixed off-site and delivered to a project at the proper consistency. Extensive laboratory and field tests conducted by Grace are described along with examples of on-site savings. Contact: Marketing Communications Dept., W. R. America's buildings are getting older and, because of the effects of weather, urban pollution, acid rain and age, the masonry is sometimes in a deteriorated state. To counter this serious problem, ProSoCo has developed Conservare OH and Conservare H stone strengtheners to help stabilize, preserve and actually strengthen existing masonry. The products consist of clear liquid that replaces the existing masonry's natural binding materials with silicon dioxide. The process improves surface and subsurface integrity by deeply penetrating the masonry's substrate. Contact: ProSoCo, Inc., 755 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS 66101.
The Halley's Comet fireback is the first in a series of limited edition fireplace plates from Pennsylvania Firebacks. On this plate, stars as small as the sixth magnitude have been accurately positioned around the comet as it nears the sun on New Year's Eve, 1985. This fireback will protect the hearth wall from decay, increase the radiant heat output and provide a lasting charm to the fireplace. Contact: Pennsylvania Firebacks, Inc., 1011 E.
