Tried and proven since 1969, the "Ste. Genevieve Steamer" is claimed to be a cost-effective way to keep masonry work moving on marginally cold days. The apparatus consists of steel hot water and steam chambers welded together as a single, rigid unit that, when buried under a load of sand and heated by a propane torch, will produce steam quickly to penetrate and heat the sand while providing hot water for mortar batches. Pittsburgh Corning describes how PC GlassBlock products can be used residentially and commercially in a new 16-page color brochure. One of the featured products is the Hedron I hexagonal glass block unit used to form corners in partitions, panels and walls. Panel design data, mortar specifications, installation details, accessories and panel anchor construction information also may be found in this booklet. A dry-stack block system for stud wall construction has been developed by the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA). Called "Heat Soak," the system upgrades the thermal and acoustical characteristics of common wood or steel stud walls, without interfering with electrical wiring, bracing and other wall inserts. Testing of the Heat Soak system at NCMA is said to show an increase of over 125% in heat capacity and 40% in radiation power over plain stud walls. Contact: NCMA, PO Box 781, Herndon, VA 22070.
The "Stallion" power buggy for moving mortar and other masonry materials has been put on the market by Muller Machinery. New features include fingertip control of the quantity to be dumped; hydraulic drive with both forward and reverse capabilities; oversized tires for positive traction, and a narrow width permitting access through 36" door frames.
