ARCHITECTS IN ST. LOUIS
Carboline Building Perpetuates City's Rich Masonry Heritage

St. Louis, Missouri, has a rich history of brick manufacturing and usage. And nowhere is this more apparent than in the impressive Carboline Building, designed by Kenneth Balk and Associates, Inc. of St. Louis and recently constructed in suburban Brentwood. The building, which utilizes specially designed oversize Williamsburg brick, is attracting particular architectural attention because it combines a corporate headquarters with a research and development laboratory in one facility.

Carboline, an internationally recognized company with manufacturing or distribution facilities in 32 countries, develops and produces highly sophisticated protective coatings, tank linings, fireproofing and roofing systems. Established in St. Louis for four decades, it wanted to reflect the area's brick heritage when it consolidated its administrative and research facilities into its new international headquarters.
