Wire mesh fencing encloses the Access Satellite work platform as an accident prevention measure. The platform also is equipped with warning signals and fail-safe devices as protection from mechanical failure or operator error.

4-horsepower motors. When workers are aboard, the platform is enclosed with steel mesh fencing, nullifying the possibility of falls or dropping loose materials. Additionally, the platform is fitted with warning signals and fail-safe devices to ensure safety from mechanical failure or operator error. "Our masons liked working with the system just fine," Beeler said.

The Omni masonry project, which began in November, 1985, reached completion in late June, 1986, virtually on the nose of the original estimate. Because of the complex nature of the job, which called for strict adherence to the historical composition of the center of the city of Charleston, an extremely skilled group of union masons was required.

Beeler explained: "We worked on walls 50 to 100 feet high with windows and balconies. Also, we used three different colors of brick. The brickwork started with radial units, which required extra time. Now that we have it completed, we will analyze the job and use that analysis on other projects."

The new Omni center is scheduled for completion by fall of 1986. "All I know is that it is going to be a big, beautiful addition to the city of Charleston when it is finished," Beeler said. "I feel good because despite a number of obstacles encountered, we feel it's a job well done."

Pour in the Profits
Many chimneys today are too large and may be battered by time and the elements. But Ahrens unique, two-liner process can restore and protect any chimney. The first liner strengthens and insulates as Ahrens mix is poured over a correctly sized bell which has been lowered into the chimney. The mix is vibrated into place, into each tiny crack and crevice, and lines the chimney while the bell is raised. After the first liner has cured, the second liner is poured over a foam-rubber applicator which is then lowered down the chimney. The second, ceramic- like liner seals, protects and prevents deterioration. This process is available only from the professionals at Ahrens Chimney Techniques. You can specialize in the Ahrens process in your area. No experience is needed because Ahrens provides complete training and dealer support programs.
