Announce 1987 Officers
The Masonry Institute of Michigan announced that Michael Navetta, Navetta Mason Contractors, Novi, was re-elected to his fourth consecutive term as Chairman of the masonry promotion group for 1987.

Serving as Vice Chairman is Frank J. Soave, Borin/Boice Builders Supply, Pontiac, Secretary is Roy A. Seelbinder, R. A. Seelbinder Construction Co., Troy. Treasurer is Francis Costella, Monte Costella, Inc., Southfield. Serving as Assistant Secretary is Robert Nowak, R. C. Nowak & Company. Garden City. Assistant Treasurer is Robert D. Rensi, Lafarge Corporation/ Great Lakes Region, Lansing.

Staff Changes At NCMA
The National Concrete Masonry Association announces the following staff changes.

Hired to the newly created position of Manager of Manpower Development is Cecil Simpson. Cecil has worked for many years in vocational education and in the construction industry. He has previously taught adult vocational education courses as well as high school classes. He earned a B.S. and M.A.T. from Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro.

NCMA's new Energy Engineer is Kevin Cavanaugh. A recent graduate of the University of Maryland, Kevin has worked in cooperative education programs for the national Bureau of Standards. He is the author of several papers on thermal mass and heat transferral.

NCMA has also promoted its newsletter editor Chris Weitzel to the newly created position of Manager of Marketing Communications. Chris has been editor of C/M NEWS for over two years, and has worked on NCMA public relations and promotional campaigns.

Masonry Project Design Award

The First Masonry Project Design Award Competition co-sponsored by the Toronto Society of Architects and the Toronto Masonry Industry Promotion Fund was held recently with 21 entries being received from architects belonging to the Toronto Society of Architects. The masonry projects were to have been built since December 1983 within the jurisdictional area serviced by the Bricklayers and Stonemasons Local 2, Toronto, Ontario.

The task of the judges was to select an outstanding project for its aesthetic interest in the use of masonry products, tasteful detailing of the units, and for the quality of workmanship in the installation of the masonry materials. The jury's task was undertaken by Architects Dan McAlister and Rudy Javosky. Masonry Contractors Eugene George and Peter L. Martini, who was the actuator of the aware programme, along with two representatives of the Bricklayer and Stonemason Local 2, Toronto, Ontario, John Robbins and John Elliott.

The architect of the winning project received a painting commissioned by the Toronto Masonry Promotion Fund. The artist, Mr. Chris Temple, was selected on the recommendation of Mr. Christopher Hume, the Toronto Star Art Critic. The subject of the painting is an aerial view of downtown Toronto entitled "Simcoe's Vision."

Get Well Fast Stan
All of us at MCAA are pulling for a fast recovery for Stan Misunas, Editor, Masonry magazine. Just before our departure for the '87 Conference in Dallas, Stan experienced a stroke and has been side lined. He is making a good recovery and all MCAA members send him regards and wish him well in the days ahead.

The Kentuckiana Masonry Institute, Inc., recently presented two awards for "Excellence in Masonry" at their seventh annual Awards Luncheon, held in conjunction with the Central Kentucky Chapter, AIA.
