ST. LOUIS MASONRY AWARDS

Four St. Louis area projects, ranging from a corporate headquarters building to a municipal bus garage, were among the winners in the 1987 Excellence in Masonry Architectural Awards Program. The competition was sponsored by the Masonry Institute of St. Louis in cooperation with the St. Louis Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The ceremonies at the St. Louis Art Museum marked the fifth time the Masonry Institute has sponsored the triennial awards program since the program was initiated in 1973.

Jurors for the competition included Joseph F. Schappa, AIA, principal of Feinknopf Macioce Schappa Architects of Columbus, Ohio: Antonio R. Bologna, FAIA, principal of Bologna & Associates, Inc. of Memphis, Tenn.; and Richard H. Kaplan, FAIA, of Kaplan/Curtis Architects of Cleveland, Ohio.

Jurors comments: "Nice sense of consistent detailing, color, scale and relationships."

Project: Woodlands Plaza IV, St. Louis, Mo.

Mason Contractor: Fred L. Davis Co.

Jurors comments: "Neat, clean detailing, and consistent high quality. Handsome, well detailed interior at lobby. Crispness to facade by use of special shapes and color. Good relationship of building to the site."

Jurors comments: "Two materials, brick and glass, work well together. There is harmony to the entire composition."
