Architectural Firm Changes Name
Ferebee, Walters & Associates, Charlotte, NC, one of the Southeast's largest and oldest architectural firms, is changing its name to FWA Group.
"While our firm has continually evolved since the 1950s, the name has remained essentially the same," says S. Scott Ferebee, Jr., FAIA, president and chief executive officer.
"The new name uses the letters 'FWA' to reflect our heritage and it combines those letters with "Group" to provide an accurate reflection of our firm today a team of professionals designing major projects."
The 34-year old firm is also opening a new office in Jacksonville, Florida, the fourth office for the Charlotte-based company. Other offices are in Research Triangle Park, NC and Hilton Head Island, SC.
DU PONT TALLIES COST OF INJURIES TO CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
A disabling injury in the construction industry costs an average of $18,650, according to a study by the Du Pont Company's Safety Services Division.
This figure is based on National Safety Council data for 1985 and on a performance review of selected companies from more than 500 of the group's consultation clients.
"A constructor with 1000 employees could expect to have 36 lost workday injuries. Given the estimated 9.0 percent profit margin of this industry, the company would need more than $20 million in sales to offset these injuries," says John Lutness, manager, consulting services.
"From this perspective, safety makes good business sense. Many managers take a shortsighted view and see safety as a non-productive activity. Our study shows just how significant the effect of safety can have on a company's financial health," Lutness says.
