Winners of Michigan Scholarships
Students from across the state are winners of scholarships awarded by the Masonry Institute of Michigan for architectural study at Lawrence Institute of Technology. LIT, located in Southfield, has one of the largest accredited schools of architecture in the nation. This marks the eleventh straight year the Masonry Institute of Michigan has assisted LIT students with scholarship awards.
Named as 1987 recipients were: Mark Buchalter, 21, from Southfield, who won the ninth annual Masonry Institute of Michigan Scholarship: Brian Gill, 21, Lansing, who earned the second annual George Spencer Scholarship: Larry Hoganson, 31, Berkley, who received one of two newly created Masonry Institute of Michigan Scholarships; Lawrence Rager, 22, from Huntington Woods, who was awarded the eleventh annual James R. Snyder Scholarship: Tod R. Stevens, 21, Marysville, recipient of the tenth annual Robert F. Ebeling Scholarship; Laurel Van Epps, 23, Rochester Hills, winner of the third annual John A. Heslip Scholarship and Dale Patrick Wolicki, 20, Bay City, recipient of the second newly created Masonry Institute of Michigan Scholarship.
The scholarships, each worth $1,000, were recently presented at an annual golf outing which serves as the major fundraising vehicle for the scholarship fund.
Scholarship presentations were made by Karl H. Greimel, FAIA, dean of LIT's School of Architecture and Masonry Institute Chairman Mike Navetta.
New SpecGUIDES From CSI
The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) has added 18 SpecGUIDEs to its library of construction documents. SpecGUIDEs are comprehensive workbooks for writing and coordinating technical specification sections of a project manual. A typical SpecGUIDE includes a glossary, abbreviations, selection criteria, and specifications considerations for the topic treated. Inspection reminders, references, and resources are also included.
The following list describes the contents of the new SpecGUIDES:
Stone (04400): Covers concrete-filled excavated and drilled caissons, including casings. Both straight and belled shafts are discussed, addressing the dry, cased, or slurry displacement methods.
Roofing Tiles (07320): Covers lapped roofing tiles of clay, concrete, and metal. Underlayment, fastening
