OFFICIAL CONFERENCE PROGRAM

The official meetings of the 38th Annual Conference opened Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Knoxville Room of the Opryland Hotel when President Brown rapped the gavel to call the Conference to order. The Tennessee Air National Guard presented the colors which was followed by an invocation by Dr. Russell T. Montfort of the West End Methodist Church.

The first speaker on the program was Dr. Dewey Daane. Dr Daane is the Potter Professor of Banking at Vanderbilt University and a former member of the Federal Reserve Board. He is currently Chairman of the International Policy Committee of the Sovereign Central South Bank. Dr. Daane was relatively optimistic about the U.S. economy, indicating a growth rate of between 2-3% in 1988. He did indicate that there could be a possible weakening in 1989. It was his feeling that during 1988 the manufacturing sector of the economy will be strong. President Brown then gave his State of the Association message, which covered in detail a series of events concerning MCAA and its relationship with other organizations within the industry. Following his in-depth report, he introduced Tandy Rice, keynote speaker for the Conference. Mr. Rice, current head of Top Billings International and Past President of the Country Music Association, gave a gripping presentation that had emotions running the full gamut. Following his dynamic speech, covering human relationships, he was given a standing ovation. After the adjournment of the meeting he was personally greeted by most of the delegates.

During the session, President Brown presented Anthony Zotollo of New York City, the 1987-88 Membership Award for securing the greatest number of new members during the year.

One of the more dynamic speakers ever to speak before MCAA meetings was Tandy Rice. Tandy gave an inspirational message that will long be remembered by MCAA delegates.

Dr. Dewey Daane, Potter Professional of Banking at Vanderbilt University, gave the opening session an overview of the 1988 U.S. economy.

MCAA EDUCATIONAL TRADE SHOW

At 12:00 Noon, President and Mrs. Brown were joined by the other officers and their wives for the ribbon cutting that officially opened the 1988 MCAA Educational Trade Show.

The MCAA Educational Trade Show this year was one of the most outstanding ever held and it gave the MCAA members a real competitive edge with this opportunity to see the newest products, systems and methods that will be available to the masonry industry in 1988.

The second session of the 38th Annual Conference on Friday gave industry representatives an opportunity to present views on a variety of subjects. The first speaker. Dr. George Barney of PCA, in his continued on page 12
