C/M National Award Winners
A school, a bus maintenance facility, and a naval training center have been presented with the Design Award of Excellence in a national competition sponsored by the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA). The annual contest encourages innovation in design with concrete masonry. The winners are a showcase for the beauty and creative design possibilities of concrete masonry building systems.
Entries in the Design Award of Excellence Competition were judged on how well the buildings meet functional requirements: the degree of precision and care of assembly; how they fit into and enhance the context of the site, adjacent buildings, and neighborhood; and the degree to which the design gives greater meaning to the building in its location and its place in society. Entries were numbered, and the judges reviewed the submissions without any information on the designers, builders, or suppliers of concrete masonry units.
