Ageless Masonry Arch Is Fascinating and Functional
By PAUL SNYDER

History reveals that with the growing concentration of people in ancient cities, providing sufficient means of transportation and supplying adequate water were two of society's primary concerns. To accomplish this, ancient Roman, Greek and Babylonian engineers made use of the masonry arch. From majestic arched aqueducts to great bridges, the masonry arch has withstood the test of time. No less fascinating or functional today, the masonry arch provides many uses for interior design. Whether making a grand gesture or a subtle statement, various style arches not only provide symmetry in design but also express character, beauty and charm.
