METRIC

THE ADOPTION of the use of the metric system rather than the English foot-pound system will necessitate a number of basic changes in dimensions and measurements. The following is provided to assist mason contractors in making the conversion to metric.

Length-Linear distances will be indicated in meters or millimeters and will be identified as "m" or "mm," respectively. To convert from feet to meters, multiply by 0.3048. To convert from inches to millimeters, multiply by 25.4.

Area-Areas will be indicated in square meters or square millimeters and will be identified as "m²" or "mm²," respectively. To convert from square feet to square meters, multiply by 0.092 903. To convert from square inches to square millimeters, multiply by 645.16.

Volume Volume will be indicated in cubic meters, liters, or cubic centimeters and will be identified as "m³," "L," or "cm³," respectively. To convert from cubic feet to cubic meters, multiply by 0.028 317. To convert from cubic inches to cubic centimeters, multiply by 16.387.
