Expo '95
Gambling center of America is fast becoming a family destination with addition of new theme mega-resorts.
MASONRY Expo is the once a year opportunity for mason contractors to discover new products, services and programs. It is also a chance to relax and enjoy the amenities of a friendly city. This year it will be held in Las Vegas, a city which has earned the reputation as the "entertainment capital of the world." Gambling is perhaps Las Vegas' most popular form of entertainment, however, a new era of family oriented diversions have arrived.
The change came about gradually when theme mega-resorts, such as Caesars Palace, Circus Circus, Excalibur and The Mirage opened. More multi-dimensional resorts followed. The pink domed Grand Slam Canyon, a five acre amusement park, was attached to Circus Circus Hotel-Casino in 1993. The Canyon features the only double-loop, double-corkscrew, indoor roller coaster in the U.S. as well as other amusement park rides set among grottos, caves and waterfalls based on the geography of the Southwest's Canyon Country.
Later that year three more mega-resorts opened. The pyramid shaped Luxor Hotel-Casino, features a full scale reproduction of King Tut's Tomb. Inside the 30-story, pyramid-shaped hotel are reproductions of artifacts from Luxor and Karnak Temple. Luxor's River Nile transports guests to room elevators, which travel at a 39 degree angle up the slope of the pyramid. Continued on Page 36
