A Tip of the Hat

It comes as no surprise to learn that fourteen of the top twenty U.S. mason contractors, in terms of annual dollar volume, are MCAA members, according to the Engineering News Record (ENR) annual report of top specialty contractors. The report, which appeared in the October 3, 1994 issue of ENR, notes that "A greater willingness of banks to lend for building projects is helping the commercial market and masonry structures in particular."

MCAA members and their reported 1993 revenues were: Pompano Masonry, Pompano Beach, Florida, $27-million; Pyramid Masonry Contractors, Decatur, Georgia, $25-million; Dee Brown, Dallas, Texas, $19.5-million; Seedorff Masonry, Strawberry Point, Iowa, $18.9-million; Leonard Masonry, St. Louis, Missouri, $18.4-million; Thorleif Larsen and Son, Itasca, Illinois, $16.9-million; Masonry Arts, Bessemer, Alabama, $16.9-million; John J. Smith Masonry, St. Louis, Missouri, $13.8-million; Schiffer Mason Contractors, Holt, Michigan, $12.8-million; Wasco, Incorporated, Nashville, Tennessee, $12.7-million; John E. Keener, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, $12.5-million; R and R Masonry, North Hollywood, California, $8.5-million; J and E Duff, Incorporated, Carol Stream, Illinois, $8.2-million; and Kretschmer and Smith, Riverside, California, $7.8-million. The fourteen MCAA members accounted for a total of $218,900,000 in masonry construction.

The report by the prestigious construction publication reaffirms what we've known all along that Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) members continue to lead the industry in all respects not only in terms of craftsmanship, but also in terms of sales and profitability.

As members of MCAA, these top producers are owners of the only national magazine published by and for mason contractors Masonry Magazine.
