Publications Committee

This committee is responsible for the Masonry magazine, a professional publication for the masonry industry. This committee also is responsible for the Masonry Expo Show Daily, which was printed during the three days of Masonry Expo. In addition, the Publications Committee conducted the second International Masonry Awards Competition. After a very successful pilot program last year, the Competition highlighted an expanded array of award winning projects from both the U.S. and Canada.

Safety Committee

Under the direction of Chairman Al Wendt, this committee has completed the successful implementation of the Safety Hotline for MCAA members and has already solved many of our members' safety problems. The Forklift Safety video is rapidly becoming the hottest selling MCAA publication. Currently, the committee is looking toward developing a safety tool-box talk program.

Training Committee

Chairman Mack Pettit and his committee had a whirlwind of activities this past year. The committee is developing a comprehensive national training program and has sought and received industry support to launch this new program.

The program calls for the implementation of a foreman training program, the encouragement of young people to seek careers in the masonry industry and the implementation of a new national mason training program to address the problem of a shrinking workforce in a time of expanding masonry markets.

In addition, plans call for the hiring of a full-time MCAA education director for the designing and implementation of this national program.

MCAA Conference and Masonry Expo

Rounding out MCAA activities, this year's MCAA Conference and Masonry Expo is undoubtedly the biggest and best ever. This year's program capped a steady increase of expanded educational programs, demonstrations and exhibits from previous Masonry Expo's. MCAA's increased investment in offering expanded programs to attendees has resulted in this year being the greatest show ever.

Looking To The Future

During this past year, we've been active in promoting a stronger association, closer cooperation with allied associations and we've planted the seeds for a more competitive and prosperous future.

I can assure you that MCAA will continue to work hard representing the mason contractor. We will double our efforts at providing the quality services that all mason contractors need to build a successful business. I pledge to you that MCAA will never make empty promises. Instead we will reward your loyalty with a continued record of accomplishment and proven service to our members.

In closing, I want to thank our members who have exhibited a greater commitment and involvement in the MCAA. I especially want to thank my fellow officers whose guidance and support have made this past year so productive and rewarding. I would also like to thank the staff for their continued professionalism and hard work. My thanks also goes out to you for the many letters and calls of encouragement and unending support. It has been a privilege to serve. - Lenny C. Pardue, Jr.
