In a pumping project that required frequent pipeline relocations, two of G.A.'s standpipes were portable; the other two were fixed and centrally located. One pump worked alone for about eight months. As upper deck levels neared completion, G.A. added a second pump and crew to speed the project. A compact trailer pump and operator were delivered to the site from CPI in Kansas City.
Following vertical wall reinforcement with No. 4 rebar, a 4,000-psi chip mix was delivered through the pumps' two inch pipelines. The design included 6-in. limestone chips, Class A washed sand, and an 8-bag mix of Ash Grove Type I cement.
The mix delivered in small loads of four or five from Dolese Brothers' Apco batch plant at Yukon, a 12-hour haul. G.A. Masonry had about an hour to pour a load of cellular mix. With one cubic yard required to fill 100 blocks, crews maintained a pace of 5,000 blocks a day, placed and filled a production average of four to five yards per hour of pumped concrete per crew.
