COVER
ST. NICHOLAS GREEK Orthodox is a church and community center that serves the town of Troy, Michigan, won a local award, then went on to enter Masonry Magazine's Excellence in Masonry Awards. The architect, Constantine George Pappas, also of Troy used a design that incorporates a brick and block load bearing masonry system in both the exterior and the interior surfaces. St. Nicholas' primary requirement was design a building flexible in nature to future additions as well as integrating the spirit of traditional Byzantine, an ornate and elaborate style of architecture. This was accomplished through a series of independent masonry bearing buildings, connected by a glass link. Robovitsky Masonry of Southfield, Michigan, the mason contractor for this project was noted in execution of design. Supplying the majority of the masonry was Brickcraft, Incorporated, located in Royal Oak.
