Most of us, if asked what the definition of a leader is, would give a different answer. To many of us, a leader is someone who would charge up a hill and lead his troops into battle or a quarterback who brings his team down the field and throws the winning touch down. To others, a leader is someone who would invent a better mousetrap or a new medical vaccine. Still others may say that a leader is someone who forges change in the political arena.
According to Webster's, the word "Leader" has the following definition: A person or thing that leads, directing, commanding or guiding head as of a group or activity.
Too often, however, we view a leader as the head of the biggest company in an industry. But leaders are not always the giants in an industry, They are not always the most successful businessmen and women making the most profit.
A true leader is someone who does something that makes a difference. Someone who, when they are finished can say to themselves that I mattered...I left the world a better place than when I found it. Whether their actions are big or small, they made a difference.
Many of us are leaders in our own rite. Raising families and inspiring our children to accomplish new and wonderful feats is one of the greatest ways we prove our leadership. We also make a difference in helping make our communities a better place to live and raise our families by serving on local community, church and civic groups.
In the masonry industry, there exists hundreds of leaders working everyday to make their industry a better one. These men and women work tirelessly with little or no recognition to expand the masonry industry, recruit future workers and train more apprentices.
MASONRY surveyed hundreds of mason contractors and as a result, is spotlighting just a few of the leaders that are working hard to make a difference in the masonry industry. These individuals are leading the industry in the areas of masonry promotion, training and education, and recruitment. They volunteer their time, day in and day out, on industry committees and boards to build the future of the masonry industry. They are the leaders of the masonry industry.
