The Last Word

Changes are on the way.

Beginning with this issue, some will notice a change in the look of Masonry. The editorial staff is revamping features to enhance and update our image. The full-cover shot is bolder and topic oriented. Departments will slowly be adjusted to emphasize our new look. Since this is the magazine for the masonry industry, we look forward to hearing your opinion of this and subsequent issues. Contact the editorial offices through the address on the bottom of page six.

A special thanks to all the contributors who made this year's convention happen. The staff worked long and hard to make Masonry Expo look effortless, and while you are unwinding, they are gearing up for next year's show in Phoenix, Arizona.

Masonry Expo was a success due to participation from the people who make up the masonry industry. In order to keep masonry as a whole up to date and in competition with other construction industries, there needs to be participation and volunteering en mass.

Start with local associations and get involved in promoting masonry. Note that all Leaders of the Masonry Industry have started their careers locally and slowly progressed to a national level. If you are not sure how to start, attend a few local meetings and offer your assistance, attend conventions and meet with association representatives, or look for community projects that would benefit from your construction background.

Featured in next month's issue is legislation and what it means to mason contractors and the construction industry as a whole. Highlights of the Associated Specialty Contractors National Legislative Conference can also be found in the May/June issue. Melissa Matarrese, Editor
