Phoenix at Night

Phoenix has a wide variety of night spots to unwind after a long day of attending educational programs and exhibits.

For those of you who want to rock the night away, Longwong's (701 S. Mill ave., Tempe) is where the Gin Blossoms got their start (and occasionally return to play unannounced). The Martini Ranch (7295 E. Stetson Drive, Scottsdale) has taken the Southwest concept of ranching to an all together new level with hot live bands. For the Achy-Breaky crowd who need to experience the two step experience, Cheyenne Cattle Co. (455 N. Third St., Arizona Ctr., Phoenix) or Graham Central Station (43rd Ave. & Indian School Road, Phoenix) and join the live dancing or just relax and tap your toes. You can escape the city lights with a scenic drive out to a cowboy steak dinner and an evening of country swing at Pinnancle Peak Patio (10426 E. Tomax Road, Scottsdale).

If Jazz and Blues is your thing, then start with Timothy's (6335 N. 16th Street, Phoenix) or Melody Lounge (Curry & Scottsdale Roads, Tempe). If you're hungry for good food and good sounds, The All Jazz Cafe (1906 E. Camelback road, Phoenix) will satisfy both appetites.

If you prefer your tunes with a funkier beat or down and dirty, The Rhythm Room (1019 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix) and Char's Has The Blues (4631 Ν. 7th Ave., Phoenix) offer solid helpings of Chicago blues.

Or if you just want to find a great place to take in a game, America's Original Sports Bar (455 N. 3rd Street, Arizona Center, Phoenix), and McKenna's (100 W. Clarendon Ave., Phoenix) and Majerle's Sports Grill (24 N. 2nd St., Phoenix) are notable establishments with spirited crowds.

Horny Toad

The place vaguely resembles a falling-down miner's shack, which is to say it's rustic in a big way. Of course, rugged decor may be a large part of the Toad's appeal, which attracts many visitors who have come to see real live cowboys and locals who do their darndest to play the part. Then again, most everybody like the steaks, the fried chicken, and the barbecued ribs (a Toad Specialty).
