Moving to the next job

Moving your scaffolding from job to job is no small task. You gain in two ways by saving time here. If one system takes, say, two days less time to move than another, you save two days' labor costs on every move from now on, plus your scaffolding is generating extra profits instead of sitting idle. Many companies sell special racks to hold the component parts when the scaffolding is disassembled, but you must do just that: disassemble and reassemble between jobs. Some companies have special racks to move assembled towers between jobs.

One company has incorporated moving conveniences into their initial design. Their fully assembled towers are simply landed on any flat bed truck or trailer and lock together tightly in a minimum amount of time. They can be reassembled on the next job the same day.

Here is where small parts, or the lack of them, becomes important. If you have to keep up with winch handles, wing nuts, coupling pins, etc., and these parts get lost, it can cause a significant delay in getting started on the next project. One system has designed out almost all loose parts.

Training

Your initial purchase should include adequate in-depth job site training by a factory representative. Managing your labor and handling materials is different when using elevating scaffolding. Training should cover erection and dismantle, configuring inside and outside corners, moving the scaffolding from wall to wall, and most important, instruction on setting up and running the job with elevating scaffolding as opposed to frames. Convinced? Chances are your competition is. Not convinced yet? Then buy just a little and keep track of your production. Run the numbers and see how much your profit increases. But remember, if you do decide to make the switch, don't tell your competitors. Let them keep on working just like they did 50 years ago.
