conditions, reviewing most recent codes or on construction observation job walks."

He, as an owner's representative, went on to describe how architects "sound like the rest of the construction team... 'it's not my fault," while continuing "to make attempts at reductions in responsibility exposure through revised AIA documents and legislation".

A reader from New York offered four suggestions to help correct the problems facing the profession. They are: "making national associations meaningful... (offering) meaningful seminars with updated products. (producing) newsletters with new products (or listing them on the) internet... (publishing) magazine articles about our industry."

It can be safely concluded that these practitioners represent hundreds of architects whose thoughts are in sync with this and previous messages but whose pens are stilled by their masters.

Architects need to again attain leadership in the design and fiduciary positions as well. They are extensions of their clients, representing them in all matters pertaining to the design and physical aspects of all that is rendered. It is indeed a surgical procedure that sutures all parts into a healthy physical entity called a building.

Full responsibility belongs to architects. Their charge, training and experience brings that fruit to bear. It is the implementation and meshing of design, construction, scheduling, costs, and quality. These bonded elements provide individuals with a better place to live, work, play, shop, and worship.

Architecture, the only public sculpture, offers the avenue in which individuals can fulfill their dreams. Now architects must target their efforts to help others understand the important relationship between their services and the dream process.

Fred L. Bemheim, FARA, of Bemheim & Kahn Ltd., Architects, Chicago and Northbrook, and his partner, Lawrence 1. Kahn, are celebrating their 40th anniversary of architectural practice in the Chicago metropolitan area.

reduced by using a closed-textured heavyweight unit - higher density concretes and clays provide greater sound insulation. Reflected noise can be effectively controlled by using open-textured units, or special acoustical units, to absorb sound within the room.

Fire resistant construction is a natural for masonry materials. Because masonry contains the spread of fire, it is often chosen for buildings where the occupants may not be able to exit quickly, such as schools and health care facilities. Lightweight masonry materials provide maximum fire resistance.

Masonry materials offer many benefits which fit a variety of needs for today's building owners, developers, designers, and consumers. Masonry walls protect from fire and unwanted noise, providing safety and privacy. The lasting strength, durability, and beauty have been proven time and again.
