7 Prestressed Masonry: Design & Construction
The practice of prestressing masonry is growing in popularity in Europe, Australia and the United States. This innovation in masonry design and construction offers opportunities for reinforcing walls using little or no grouting. It is particularly suited to one and two story buildings and tall walls for warehouses, gymnasiums and shopping centers. Using prestressed masonry offers additional competition for concrete panels. This presentation will provide an overview of prestressing methods and highlight some current uses in the United States.
