SAFETY
SOFTWARE
The MCAA has designed a forklift program to meet all the requirements of the new OSHA forklift standard. Completing both the book and practical portion of the program will prove competence.
Software has been designed to assist contractors in developing a health and safety program. If followed properly, this program is an accepted OSHA health and safety program.
A contractor's profit margin could be sharply eroded by one OSHA citation. The MCAA works to improve relations with OSHA and to create and implement programs for contractors to prevent OSHA citations.
One such program was the development of a new wall bracing standard. This new standard was produced in part by mason contractors, and is a fair, understandable, well-defined standard. Another example is the two-part forklift training program. This program encompasses both textbook competence as well as practical competence of forklift safety. Upon successful completion, the contractor has tests on file and the operator has a card to prove competence. Lastly, the MCAA has developed a computerized safety program that if followed properly, will aid contractors in implementing an employee health & safety program, which complies with OSHA's standard.
The MCAA represents contractor interests on the following codes and standards committees: ASTM, MSJC, MACS, and CMR. Codes and Standards committee representation is key to the future working conditions in the industry. How much would it cost you to immediately sort through each and every brick and block as they were being delivered to your job-site? This was proposed at one of the codes and standards committees. Clearly this would create a huge cost to contractors who would literally have to have an employee separate each pallet of block or brick as they arrived on their job site to check for damaged goods or accept all the damaged materials. The MCAA was instrumental in stopping this burdensome and costly practice. This action alone was well worth the price of your membership.
Wall Bracing: There will be a new wall bracing standard this year. The new standard was developed impart by mason contractors, and will be well defined and easy to understand. The MCAA spearheaded the wall bracing effort.
