GROUTED MASONRY
Those areas that required marginal structural reinforcement may require marginal structural reinforcement and those areas that required marginal reinforcement might move toward moderate reinforcement requirements. Deformed reinforcement requires grout to be effective. The real value of grout is in the benefit recognized by a quality masonry system. It is important to recognize the benefit of grouted masonry and construct the system to certain quality thresholds. When this is done, the end user of the system receives a product, a building, that no only can he or she be extremely proud of, but that has the performance capability to last generations with virtually zero maintenance while withstanding most forces that man or nature can impose.
Detailed information on grouting can be obtained from the MCAA Resource Catalog or from the Masonry Institute of America. The Masonry Institute of Michigan has also developed a comprehensive program of materials for education of masonry grouting.
