GOING MONTHLY...
MASONRY'S New Year's Resolution

As the end of the year approaches and the holidays are literally right around the corner, it's only natural for all of us to reflect on this past year and to recognize all of our accomplishments, our victories, our challenges and even our defeats. At the same time, we are programmed to look ahead to the new year with anticipation, excitement and motivation ready to tackle our next new project.

Our thinking caps are on the wheels are turning. Business does go on... and if we want to reach those big, lofty goals or stick to our newest resolution for the year, we have to start thinking and planning NOW. Well, that is most definitely the case for us here at MASONRY magazine....

In a conscious effort to continue to inform and educate its members of the critical issues facing the masonry industry, the board of the Mason Contractors Association of America has decided to double the frequency of MASONRY, beginning January 1, 2001...going from a bi-monthly publication to a monthly publication. This increase in frequency will bring MASONRY head-to-head with our competing magazine, Masonry Construction, published by the Aberdeen Group. With so much to look forward to, how could we possibly think about anything else?

But hey, we're not the only ones who should be excited... it's you, our mason contractors and industry suppliers who will most certainly appreciate the increase in both frequency and overall quality of MASONRY. Beginning in January, mason contractors will no longer have to wait every other month to read the hard-hitting articles featured in MASONRY. In addition, they'll have the benefit of enjoying MASONRY's new departments such as MASONRY News and Local Chapter News every month.

Likewise, our industry suppliers will now have the opportunity to double the frequency of their ads and market their company directly to the industry's 15,000 mason contractors who make the decisions on buying their equipment and products. Not to mention, they'll pay only one-fifth the cost of advertising in Masonry Construction. This exciting news means that they can place ads more frequently, they can place larger, more appealing ads, and they can put money back into their advertising budget by choosing to advertise in MASONRY.

But what's most important is the fact that our industry suppliers can take pride in knowing that they're supporting the masonry industry's future by the ads they place in MASONRY. The revenues brought in by ads placed in MASONRY go directly into the MCAA to support key industry programs such as (1) recruiting and training of the future masonry labor force; (2) development of educational programs and resources; and (3) engineering and technical support to its national membership base, to name a few. Supporting the future of the masonry industry is a claim that Aberdeen, a corporation owned by investors, simply cannot make.

Yes, it would be nice to wind down and salivate over the thought of that big, turkey dinner on Thanksgiving day, or maybe fantasize about that brand new set of golf clubs that will (hopefully) be sitting under the tree on Christmas morning. Or better yet, if you're anything like me, the thought of escaping from the bitter, cold weather and that dreadful, winter commute sounds very appealing - maybe even a vacation to some tropical, far-away place, for some good ol' R & R...

Well, think again! Like I mentioned before, business goes on and so too will MASONRY magazine, with an an exciting line-up of cover stories and feature articles for the upcoming year, that will not only appeal to our primary readership base of mason contractors, but also to our readers from the architectural and engineering fields as well.

And just when you think that things can't get any better than this, you now have the ability to access MASONRY magazine's cover stories and features online! Please be sure to visit our new website at www.masonrymagazine.com to view the latest features of MASONRY, the 2001 editorial calendar, subscribing to MASONRY and information on advertising in MASONRY.

We look forward to each new issue in the coming year and hope that you will too! A safe and happy holiday goes out to our readers and their families, from the staff of MASONRY magazine and the MCAA.
