# Young Mason Represents Entrepreneural Spirit
Eighteen-year-old Seth Harmon of Savannah, Tenn., is our Masonry Apprentice of the Month. He epitomizes the hard-working, entrepreneural spirit of the masonry trade.
Already, Harmon is an accomplished apprentice mason. He's also a roofer, metal fabricator and owner of his own contracting company. He says he will soon add refrigeration to his repertoire of skills by taking night school this winter.
"I've been making money since I was 15," Harmon says. "That's what I like to do." It has also enabled Harmon to buy his first house!
Harmon competed in the national masonry contest held this past summer in Kansas City, Mo. in conjunction with the SkillsUSA VICA National Leadership and Skills Conference. The representative from the State of Tennessee, Harmon had competed for three years in his district competitions.
Although he did not place among the top three competitors, Harmon was pleased with his project. "I was one of the first finishers. I was pleased with my work, and I guarantee more time wouldn't have helped," he said.
This past summer and fall, Harmon worked as a mason on the construction of the Isle of Capri Casino in Tunica, Miss. Looking ahead, he says he'd still like to find a scholarship to a four-year vocational school. "I want to build bigger and bigger projects," Harmon says, "and I think more training would give me a chance to do that.
