Green attended junior college then transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi where he studied marketing and finance. Sitting at a desk in a classroom, Green could see the new buildings being built on campus. "I couldn't take my mind off the appeal of building things," Green said. "I realized I didn't want to be sitting behind a desk the rest of my life." So, he enrolled in the masonry sequence at Pearl River Community College, Poplarville, Miss. His instructor was Porter Soley.
Green has been "laying brick" about a year and was pleased that he qualified to compete in the National Brick Masonry Contest. The contest was held this past summer in Kansas City, Mo. in conjunction with the SkillsUSA - VICA National Leadership and Skills Conference.
Green's been busy in the past two years finishing school, getting married, starting his own business. He recently discovered that he and his wife, Heidi, are expecting their first child.
Asked about his decision to leave college for trade school, Green said, "It may sound unusual, but it was right for me. I'm happy with the decision. I just wish I could get away from the paperwork and complicated government regs. I like doin' the work better."
