Short Term Strategies Discussed
To Move The Association Into Action.
The Board of Directors of the Mason Contractors Association of America met on Thursday, February 22 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, Florida in conjunction with the Masonry Showcase to introduce the association's new Long Range Strategic Plan to the membership. The thirty-year vision was introduced by association Executive Director Mike Adelizzi who recapped the five major goal directives in the plan. MCAA President Richard Johnston then directed the Board to develop a list of short-term action items that the association and its committees will implement during the next year, that will move the association into action toward achieving its long-term goals.
The Long Range Strategic Plan, completed during the association's Midyear Meeting last fall, was developed to assist the Board and membership in moving the association into a leadership role in the industry. No organization exists in the industry that is as uniquely qualified to represent the interests of all of the industry's mason contractors as the MCAA is. During the past several years, the association has made great strides in developing programs and services that assist mason contractors in expanding their firms' capabilities. Now the Board, with the guidance of the new strategic plan, will become more aggressive in expanding the influence of the mason contractor in critical areas such as codes and standards, market expansion, legislative action and workforce development.
Even the meeting format of the Board was radically changed to allow the Board members more time to focus on dealing with future trends and issues and less time on reviewing reports of past actions. "I am extremely pleased with our new format. This new agenda allows our Board members, who are among the brightest and most dedicated contractors in the industry, to focus on the future, who our competitors will be, and what the association must do to position MCAA members to succeed in the future," said MCAA President Mike Johnston. "I've never seen so many solid ideas coming out of one meeting."
For decades, the association was governed by a process of review and ratify, whereby action reports were presented to the MCAA Board, and (right to left) MCAA Regional Vice President Heitkamp Masonry, MCAA Regional Vice President of WASCO, Inc. discuss the Association's short.
